Accelerate systematically
The innovative RAAX design with its radial-axial turbine inflow ensures a faster charge pressure buildup during acceleration and consequently much faster reaction times. This turbocharger model has been in large-scale serial production since 2015. Since 2016, the Volkswagen Group’s gasoline engines equipped with this turbocharger model have continuously received various honors at the International Engine + Powertrain of the Year Awards in the 1.8 – 2 liter respectively 150 – 250 hp as well as International Engine of the Year Award classes.

Innovative RAAX design
Continental has been using the most cutting-edge and efficient turbocharger technology for years. One milestone is the RAAX turbine technology. It first went into series production in the Audi A3 and accelerates the response time to torque by over 20 %:
- Due to the novel turbine design, the exhaust gas does not flow in at right angles, but from a radial-axial direction.
- This modified airflow, in conjunction with significantly smaller turbine blades, reduces the mass moment of inertia by around 40 %.
- The charging pressure builds up much faster and reduces emissions by up to 3 %.

Innovative RAAX design
