These are not easy times for workshops – and not just since Corona reared its nasty head: Sales and profits are shrinking, and more and more expensive high-tech equipment is needed for analysis and maintenance. Nowadays, it’s vital for you to know every last detail about your costs, revenues, customers and markets. We’ve created a webinar about our new analysis tool, the Key Figure Compass Autoservice. This tool will give you a complete overview of what you can do to remedy the situation. You want more sales and more profits? We’ll now show you five important ways of achieving this goal, also discussed in more detail in our webinar:
1. Check your hourly rates!
Many workshops base their hourly rates exclusively on what the competition charges. But have you ever really thought about how much customers would actually pay you for your services? From the customers’ point of view, higher costs may be okay if they’re happy with the way you solve their problems. So don’t simply look at what the local competition is charging, use the comparative figures for the entire industry. Even small changes can often make big differences in your annual sales! The topic of hourly rates is also the subject of our free and non-binding webinar – register here to watch it.
2. Optimize your workload!
Do you know this feeling? You seem to have a lot to do, but somehow all the work isn’t bringing in the sales and profits it should. It’s possible that customers aren’t paying enough for the hours you’re working because your internal processes aren’t running smoothly, you have too much idle time between jobs, or you’re having to deal with complaints. A comparison with other workshops can also help here: How many hours of work can you charge your customers? We’ll show the answers to this and many more questions on our free and non-binding webinar.

3. Talk to your customers!
Communication is complicated because it can so often go wrong – but you should always try to share information, and especially with your customers! If you explain all the items on the bill in detail to a customer, you’re much less likely to be stuck with unpaid services! You should charge for services such as error readouts – and explain to customers the costs you incur for the expensive equipment and the training of your employees. You should always offer additional maintenance and repair work proactively.
4. Is the investment worthwhile? It’s time for some calculation!
To service modern vehicles, you need an increasing number of expensive analysis devices and special tools. But be careful! Before you purchase anything, you should know exactly how much business you bring in with specific services, brakes, spare parts, tires and paint. Then you can calculate how quickly the purchase of a high-tech device will pay off. We’ll explain how you can do this in our webinar.
5. Use your market potential!
You not only have to know which jobs are profitable for you, you also have to be very familiar with your market and your customers: For example, how many vehicles in your catchment area are more than 4 years old – and consequently highly relevant for you? How many workshops are in competition with you? Do many cars in the area drive with winter tires or only a few? If you know how many potential customers are within driving distance of your workshop and you know all about your local competitors, then you can start to exploit your potential to the full.
